Science Week in particular offers financial support to assist public and private K-12 schools in developing and improving their science programs.

Pittcon Learning Lab

The Pittcon Learning Lab invites students and educators from San Antonio CAST Schools to explore real-world applications of science through creative, hands-on projects. Projects are presented in short videos and are eligible for recognition and funding.

  • Top winners receive $5,000 grants and a trip to Pittcon, with additional awards for Viewers’ Choice, school recognition, and honorable mention teacher grants.

How it Works

Guided by Pittcon committee mentors (and joined by the Pittcon armadillo mascot!), participants can choose from four project tracks:

Application Project

Connect Pittcon science to everyday life, school, or community.

Lesson Project

Develop a science lesson, activity, or experiment inspired by Pittcon.

Mascot Project

Design a mascot for Pittcon 2027 in Pittsburgh using the scientific method.

Critique Project

Suggest ways Pittcon can better connect with future generations.

Pittcon’s Science Outreach Efforts

Beyond its flagship conference, Pittcon is deeply committed to science education and outreach. More than 90 % of its proceeds support a wide array of initiatives—including equipment and research grants, scholarships, internships, and awards benefiting students, teachers, professors, and public science institutions like centers, libraries, and museums.

For 2026, Pittcon is collaborating with Centers for Applied Science and Technology (CAST) Schools on hands-on, real-world projects.  CAST is a non-profit organization in San Antonio, TX, the location of Pittcon 2026, with a network of five career-themed schools that allow students to learn by doing and gain real world experience.
