Pittcon will award 18 grants of $1,250 each to support schools launching or continuing science education projects aligned with NGSS or STEELS standards.

Science Outreach Grant for PA Teachers

Who Can Apply

All science teachers from the following Pennsylvania Intermediate Units can apply for the grant.

IU1, IU2, IU3, IU4, IU6, IU7, IU8, IU27, IU28

Project Scope

Proposed grants should support schools launching or continuing science education projects aligned with NGSS or STEELS standards, with preference given to chemistry-focused projects. Grant funds may also be used to purchase equipment necessary to carry out the proposed project.

Proposal Requirements

  • Up to 2 pages explaining the project’s scope
  • Include evidence of the educational/scientific merit of the project
  • Describe the impact on the students
  • Provide a detailed budget
  • Include annual science budget (financial need will be used in the evaluation process)

About the Grant

Pittcon is committed to advancing science education and empowering teachers. Through the Science Outreach Grant we aim to support innovative, hands-on learning experiences in science – with an emphasis on chemistry – for students in the Pittsburgh region.

A Special Homecoming

Pittcon 2027 will be held in Pittsburgh for the first time in 60 years. These grants celebrate our return and our continued commitment to the local science education community.

How Proposals will be Evaluated

  • Hands-on impact to students: (/25 points)

  • Financial Need: (/25 points)

  • Educational /Scientific merit (/25 points)

  • Quality of proposal including document preparation, clear explanations, & long term impact (/25 points)
