COURSE DESCRIPTION: Fast, precise & cost effective analytical methods are vital for proper QC of Hemp/Cannabis and dietary supplement ingredients and finished products to ensure both product quality and consumer safety. Spectroscopic analysis, including adsorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy has been used in a wide variety of applications such as in food sci., water quality, pharma and biology. This course will cover the use of simultaneous absorbance-transmission & fluorescence excitation emission matrix (A-TEEM) spectroscopy using the Aqualog® from Horiba for ID and potency testing on Cannabis/Hemp & other ingredients as a proven, rapid, cost effective alternative to HPLC that overcomes the most common problems associated with fluorescence spectroscopy, correcting for the inner filter effect, thus improving fingerprinting capabilities. This course includes a practical section that covers basic hardware & software theory & operation, sample handling protocols, data analysis & reporting.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Natural Products Chemists, Formulation Scientists, Food & Bev. Manufacturers, Contract Manufacturers, Food Science & Agriculture Researchers, Cosmetics, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Compliance Personnel, Quality Control, R&D scientists, Contract Testing Lab Managers & Techs, State and Federal Regulators, Forensics & Toxicology Scientists

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: To learn the fundamentals of Simultaneous Absorbance-Transmittance fluorescence Excitation Emission Matrix (A-TEEM) spectroscopy & how to apply them to the development of rapid accurate analytical methods for QA & QC. Key applications will be described including determining identity &potency as well as screening of adulterant and/or contaminants in hemp/cannabis raw materials along with other ingredients found in a wide variety of industries such as food & beverage, pharma & dietary supplement.

TRACK: Cannabis/Hemp
