Periodic Trends: See the Latest Breakthroughs at Pittcon

One of the world’s premier laboratory science conferences is named for the Steel City — and it’s coming home for the first time in more than a half-century.

The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry & Spectroscopy is organized almost entirely by volunteers from the region and an office staff in Monroeville. In 2027, for the first time since the late 1960s, it will return to Pittsburgh.

Each year the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS) recognizes the section of the society which has contributed the most towards accomplishing the goals and ideals of the society during the preceding year. The 2025 Award Recipient goes to the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP).

The Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP), together with their sister organization, the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP), organize the annual Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, better known internationally as Pittcon.

The Pittsburgh Conference (PITTCON) on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, was held on March 1-5, 2025, in Boston, MA, USA. Attending the event was a brilliant way to begin March. For someone who has followed this event for over 20 years—on and off—it’s remarkable how some things have transformed dramatically, while others remain comfortingly familiar.

Pittsburgh, PA – March 2025 – Pittcon is pleased to announce its homecoming to the city of its birth when it returns to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for Pittcon 2027 on April 24-28, 2027 at The David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLCC).
