The story started with an unassuming crab named Snapper, who hitched a ride to Pittcon 2024 in San Diego. After his frame grew, other animals clamored to be a Pittcon Mascot. Each year since then, Snapper hand selects the most memorable mascot to represent our host city.
Meet Nebby, the Groundhog from Pittsburgh
Scientists are naturally nebby. So what does “nebby” mean?
Most linguists believe nebby comes from the Scottish and Northern English word “neb,” meaning nose or beak. In the Pittsburgh dialect, Pittsburghese, “nebby” means to be curious, nosy, or inquisitive. Exactly what makes a good scientist!
