Modern laboratories utilize a variety of software solutions to capture, manage, and deliver analytical results to their internal and external customers. Most modern analytical instruments have supporting software associated with them. In addition, laboratory automation tools like Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN), Laboratory Execution Systems (LES), or Scientific Data Management Systems (SDMS) have been available for many years, yet few laboratories have an organized plan or strategy to ensure that these tools are properly selected and/or integrated with one another.
