ABSTRACT: We all know maintenance of a system is important, but sometimes operators don’t know how to perform simple system maintenance or even what maintenance is necessary. Keeping your GC and GCMS instrumentation running shouldn’t be a scary or anxiety inducing experience. In this practical show-and-tell, we will be going over the steps to make everyone successful at performing a critical maintenance step with their GC or GCMS instrumentation, column maintenance. We will be discussing the step-by-step process of safe removal, clipping, and reinstallation of a column. We will also discuss some tips and tricks to working with different types of ferrules, column types, and more. Get your column cutting wafers and magnifying glasses at the ready, we are going to cut through the challenges of performing this type of maintenance.
