From prestigious awards in analytical chemistry and applied spectroscopy to poster sessions and live demonstrations on the exhibit floor, this year’s Pittcon featured an array of new and old traditions in celebration of its 70th birthday.

Held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center In Philadelphia, brand-new features were brought to the convention floor, including the revealed makeover for Pittcon’s mascot, a new diversity STEM panel, flash posters selected by the program committee and new short courses—as well as other features Pittcon is known for: special lectures, awards for innovators in the field, poster sessions and live demonstrations of new products.

The program committee selected outstanding abstracts of momentous research, featured in the form of four slide, four minute flash sessions. There were also new short courses and topics presented at this year’s conference, including Global Chemists’ Code of Ethics and Research Leadership, The Cannabinoid Story: History, Products, Analytics and the Crime Lab and Practical NMR Spectroscopy, to name a few.

There were also some new and old exhibitors that had a booth at the conference. While companies such as KNF Neuberger, Labconco Corporation, Metrohm USA and Thermo Fischer Scientific were alumni to Pittcon, there were new faces among the crowd such as Ampac Analytical, which manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients, and Calmetrics, which manufactures high-acurracy reference XRF calibration standards.

In a slew of award sessions, scientists who have made innovative discoveries in analytical chemistry and applied spectroscopy were also highlighted at the conference.
