APIX Technology Press Conference Details

WHEN: Monday, March 18, 2013 (9:30 am – 10:00 am)

WHERE: Room 103A, Pennsylvania Convention Center

DESCRIPTION: Analytical Pixels – APIX – (www.apixtechnology.com) is pleased to present the world’s first nano-silicon based GC Systems at Pittcon 2013. Two instruments will be on display, the GCAP laboratory system and the MAX-One compact process analyzer. The GCAP system has a modular design enabling the use of a variety of preset and customizable configurations including parallel, concurrent and multi-dimensional analysis. Max-One is the industry’s first GC to be designed specifically for explosive atmosphere (cat1 div2). Highly sensitive silicon nano-resonator universal detector technology and advanced gas chromatography make up the heart of the APIX instruments. The GCAP system allows a choice of traditional silica capillary columns or ultra-compact silicon columns. Silicon column applications range from hydrocarbon analysis (N2, O2, CO2, C1-C12) thru SVOCs. These silicon based components are manufactured using state of the art semiconductor industry batch manufacturing therefore resulting in consistent quality, low cost and high yield.

Bio-Rad Laboratories Press Conference Details

WHEN: Wednesday, March 20, 2013 (8:30 am – 9:00 am)

WHERE: Room 103B, Pennsylvania Convention Center

DESCRIPTION: Learn about Bio-Rad’s new NGC chromatography system that dramatically reduces the time and effort required for protein purification. Bio-Rad’s next generation systems are easily customized to fit researchers’ application and throughput needs through the addition of interchangeable modules. These allow the system to be upgraded over time without having to purchase a new system. And unlike traditional chromatography systems, which can be intimidatingly complex from initial plumbing and set up, to experimental design and analysis, users immediately feel comfortable with the NGC system. This ease of use allows a novice to become an expert rapidly. To plumb the system simply use the point-to-plumb lighted flow path feature. Programming uses a simple drag-and-drop method that displays the sample flow path on screen. Please join Bio-Rad’s head of chromatography, Richard Lee, at Pittcon to learn how a molecular and cellular biology lab uses the NGC chromatography system to maximize protein throughput.

Pittcon Ante Portas

G.I.T. Laboratory

Starting 16 March, Pittcon 2013 will open its doors in Philadelphia, PA. Traditionally Pittcon attracts more visitors when its venue lies in the north eastern states of the US. The restored Pennsylvania convention center now is big enough for hosting the world’s most important conference on laboratory instrumentation. Like every year you have the opportunity to meet all manufacturers and experts in the field at one place. And – it’s a nice place. Philadelphia alone is worth a visit. With Pittcon on top, there is no excuse to be elsewhere from March 16th to 21st. Like in the past, the G.I.T. Laboratory Journal had an interview with Ron Bargiel, Pittcon’s President in 2013, to give you an impression on the reasons why you should visit Philadelphia in March. We hope to meet you there!

G.I.T. Laboratory Journal: Pittcon is a non-profit organization. What are the projects you plan to support with the revenues of Pittcon 2013?

Ron Bargiel – Pittcon President 2013

Ron Bargiel: Each year, together with its co-sponsoring technical societies, The Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) and The Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP), and funded by the Pittcon event, these societies award The Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grants (PCMNCG) to small college science departments. The awards are approximately $10,000 for the purchase of scientific equipment, audio-visual, teaching aids, and/or library materials for use in the teaching of science at the undergraduate level for colleges and universities throughout the United States. The award program has grown over the years to include 10 - 12 colleges that meet the nearly 300 grants have been awarded through PCMNCG since its inception in 1974. In addition to this award, Pittcon generates over $1 million dollars for the SSP and the SACP to provide financial and administrative support for various science outreach activities including science equipment grants, research grants, scholarships and internships for students, awards to teachers and professors, and grants to public science centers, libraries and museums.
